Ashe Family Literacy is an Even Start Family Literacy Program funded through the Ashe Partnership for Children, Wilkes Community College and the Ashe County School system. The Family Literacy program works with families to increase family literacy skills and help students meet their educational goals whether it is an Adult High School Diploma, GED (General Education Development), English as a Second Language or improvement of Basic Skills. This program also helps children ages 0-4 become ready to succeed in school and to help parents understand their important role as their child's first teacher. Classes are held Monday-Thursday from 8am - 2:30 pm at Family Central. Ashe Family Literacy parents and children learn through 5 components:
 
Adult Education
  • Work toward education goals
  • Individualized pacing and large and small group settings
Early Childhood Education
  • Developmentally appropriate curriculum and environment for your child
    (6 weeks-5 years)
  • Children learn through exploration and play
Parent and Child Together Time (PACT)
  • PACT is scheduled daily for parents and children to play together
Parent Education
  • Parents work with educator about parenting issues
  • Fun activities and projects included with lots of information
Home Instruction
  • Personal contact monthly with the family and the adult educator and your child's early childhood teacher.
